Of course, none of these amount to much without foreplay (think oral sex and clitoral stimulation), proper lubrication, and communication, but combine any one of them with that trifecta, and the both of you will be well on your way to having great sex. Remember, some positions like anal sex (rear entry), doggy style, and deep penetration can be painful for women, so take the necessary steps to make her both emotionally and physically comfortable with deeper penetration.

What makes it so hot: I feel like a rockstar because my entire body's on display and I'll admit that it's always more engaging for me when I'm making eye contact with my boyfriend. He likes to brace himself against my shoulder or grab my chest when we're in the thick of it.

Chen: For women who find it difficult to reach orgasm in the missionary position, I recommend helping yourself along to orgasm by stimulating your clitoris while he's on top. Just the visual alone of you touching yourself will be a feast for his eyes. During missionary your partner can leave just enough space in between your bodies so that you can slip your hand in between, reach down, and slowly stroke your own clitoral area (or C-spot) to the rhythm of his strokes, building yourself up to orgasm; with a little bit of practice it's a great way to time reaching your orgasms together.

DrEd surveyed over 2,000 people across the U.S., U.K., and Europe to see what sex positions are favorites, not just by gender, but in each country, too. What they found was that women are a bit more tame in their sexual choices and sexual desires. They're even less vocal in regards to what they want to do in bed, in many cases letting a male partner take the reigns. Which, honestly, is sort of surprising in 2016 where being sexually liberated and sex positive is something that so many women have integrated into their every day life.

Both men and women listed doggy style as their favorite position. This probably has a lot to do with the fact that the angle is great for maximum deepness and G-spot stimulation. As for rounding out the top favorite positions for women, missionary and cowgirl came in second and third place, respectively. At the bottom of the list, at number 10, was tabletop sex.

Of all the sex positions in the world, the one position that women want to try the most is tabletop sex. In fact, for both genders across the U.S., U.K., and Europe, at 19.9 percent, tabletop sex is the most desirable... which is strange, because it's also listed as the least favorite sex position for women. I guess once women try it, they're over it?

When it came to the order of sex positions that both genders wanted to try, men and women both put reverse cowgirl at number five, doggy style at number seven, 69 at number eight, and spooning at number 10.

According to the findings, 42.2 percent of women are picking up new sex positions from partners. As for other places where women learn about new sex positions, 30 percent cited online (but not porn), 19 percent turned to porn to get inspired, and 8.8 percent found new sex positions in movies or on TV.

Some psychologists place a lot of significance on eye-to-eye contact, saying "the eyes are the messengers of the soul." So what happens if one woman's favorite intercourse position allows for eye-to-eye contact, but another woman's doesn't? Does this mean the woman who prefers face-to-face positions is more open to intimacy with her partner?

While psychology could be a factor in a woman's choice of intercourse positions, I think it has more to do with where nature placed the nerve bundles in her vagina and on how the structures in her pelvis are oriented, especially her clitoris and uterus. The shape of her partner's penis can also play a role.

A woman with a tipped uterus is more likely to prefer positions where she is face to face with her partner. That's because rear entry or doggie style positions can feel painful, due to the way her uterus is positioned. The missionary position might be her favorite, or she may enjoy a woman-on-top position where she is facing forward, as opposed to a reverse cowgirl. This has little if anything to do with whether she craves eye-to-eye contact with her partner.

Variations in a woman's menstrual cycle can also impact the positions she prefers. The vagina is sensitive to estrogen levels, and these will change depending on where she is in her cycle. A woman's breasts can also become sore or more sensitive during certain times in her cycle. This could have an impact on the positions she prefers and the type of intercourse she wants to have.

There are other factors that play into a woman's sex position preferences, including whether she likes the feel of a partner's body on top of her, or if she finds it to be claustrophobic. But this, too, has little to do with whether she prefers eye-to-eye contact.

Rather than putting too much emphasis on eye-to-eye contact, I think a more important way to increase intimacy is for a woman and her partner to explore and discuss what positions work best for both of them. This is particularly important if a woman is with a new partner or isn't yet sure about the positions she prefers.

Cowgirl, or woman on top, is a classic position for womens' pleasure. In this position, you are in control of the motions and speed, so you can experience sex just the way you like it. Plus, your hands are free to stimulate your clitoris, which can help with orgasming.

CAT is a subtle variation of standard missionary position that may feel better for women. By switching up the angle of your pelvis, your partner's body will have more direct contact with your clitoris and the surrounding erogenous zone, amping up the pleasure.

Although it is not the most commonly used sex position, it is regarded as the favoured position by men, while the reverse cowgirl position is favoured by women. Between sex partners, the person in the doggy style position is usually passive, while the other partner is active (although sometimes it can be the other way around if the person in doggy position backs up into their partner behind them). Either partner may be the dominant partner or the submissive partner. The submissive partner in the doggy position is open to a variety of additional sexual activities, with the active partner being able to penetrate.

Sixty-nine or 69, also known by its French name soixante-neuf (69), is a group of sex positions in which two people align themselves so that each person's mouth is near the other's genitals, each simultaneously performing oral sex on the other. The participants are thus mutually inverted like the numerals 6 and 9 in the number 69, hence the name. This position can involve any combination of sexes.

Scissors position is a lesbian sexual practice in which a woman rubs her vulva against her partner's body for sexual stimulation, especially for stimulation of the clitoris. This may involve vulva-to-vulva contact or rubbing the vulva against the partner's thigh, stomach, buttocks, arm, or other body part (excluding the mouth). A variety of sex positions are practiced, including the missionary position. 2ff7e9595c
